Description

Cross-section of the Ranunculus root. This plant genus is distributed worldwide, except for lowland tropical areas and Antarctica. It grows up to about 1 meter tall and has large flower buds. Many different varieties are cultivated as ornamental plants. In addition to its ornamental value, some species of Ranunculus have medicinal uses in traditional and alternative medicine, and some have been used as a food source by certain Native American tribes. However, some species of Ranunculus are also known to be toxic and have been used to produce poison by certain tribes.
