Cockchafers have a life cycle of 4-5 years and are only non-larvae for a few months. Every year, during the winter season, they bury themselves 1-2 meters below the ground, where they spend the hibernation period. The cockchafer in the illustration is one of the representatives of the genus Melolontha, commonly known as „June bugs” or „May beetles”. They are large, oval-shaped beetles with brown coloration, often found in parks and forests.
