Description

Tulip tree is a genus of trees in the magnolia family, including two species: the American tulip tree and the Chinese tulip tree. They are easily recognizable thanks to their characteristic four-lobed leaves with a notch at the tip. Both species are often cultivated as ornamental plants, and the wood of the American tulip tree is used for furniture and wooden accessories production. Tulip trees are also valued for their beautiful, large flowers that resemble tulips. These trees grow quickly in moist soil in temperate climates. Flowers appear after about 15 years and are yellow-green with an orange tinge at the base. Tulip tree fruits are cone-shaped and contain seeds with one edge attached to the cone and the other attached to a wing.
