Norovirus, also known as the winter vomiting disease, is the most common cause of gastroenteritis. It causes non-bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain, and sometimes fever and headaches. Symptoms usually develop 12 to 48 hours after exposure, and recovery typically occurs within one to three days. The virus is spread through contaminated food or water, person-to-person contact, or contaminated surfaces. Prevention involves proper hand washing and disinfection of surfaces, as there is no vaccine or specific treatment for norovirus.
