Description

CW Leonis (IRC+10216) is a carbon star that moves at a speed of 91 kilometers per second and loses its mass within a radius of 2.7 light-years. Thanks to the size of its bubble (called an „astropause”), astronomers were able to estimate that CW Leo has been shedding its atmosphere for about 70,000 years. This is a natural cycle in the life of a star, as its hydrogen fuel runs out and it gradually sheds its outer layers, exposing the naked, dying core. This core is called a white dwarf and is the end product of all low-mass stars, such as our Sun
