There are around 20,000 species of bees in the world. Many of them live solitary lives, without forming colonies, just like the bee in the photo. These bees hatch in spring, mate, and then lay eggs. They usually lay only a few eggs in one place, along with nectar supplies for their future offspring. Despite their much smaller population, they are able to pollinate a much greater number of plants than breeding bees.
